Book Description

At the betrothal ball of the man she had expected to marry herself, Lady Theresa latches on to the most dashing gentleman present, hoping to divert attention from her own humiliation. That gentleman happens to be her father’s distant cousin and heir, Damian Ashby, a useless London fribble in her opinion. He is not favorably impressed with her either.

But when her father becomes mortally ill and Damian is unwillingly obligated to spend time with her at the Earl’s country estate, the two of them unexpectedly find admirable qualities in each other and discover a mutual attraction.

But can a London swell and a country lady ever make their diverse lives and interests work together?

A sweet traditional Regency short story.

The Review

Pleasant and entertaining, Treasuring Theresa is a Regency romance by Susana Ellis that draws you in with endearing characters. The author’s attention to historical details resonates throughout this story, vividly describing the English countryside estates and the people who live there. The author’s harmonious prose in addition to her use of language fitting the time period makes this story jump off the page.

When a sudden illness befalls her father, Lady Theresa comes to the realization that she will be homeless and penniless when he passes. Theresa is forced to contact her distant cousin, Damian Ashby, a self-centered Londoner and heir to her father’s estate. A few weeks earlier at their first encounter in many years, Theresa and Damian were not impressed with each other. Even though Theresa is advised to marry, she will not consider marriage of convenience. The strength she shows while explaining to Damian how her father’s estate is run made me fall in love with her character. Damian isn’t interested in a marriage to a country girl because there would be no way she would be able to fit into his life in London. But, as Damian gets to know Theresa, he discovers that she is strong, intelligent, and generous, and he has no idea that he is falling in love with her along the way, which makes him a charming character. When they both realize they have fallen in love it is a wonderful sight to see.

Treasuring Theresa is memorable character-driven story that delivers everything one would want in a sweet traditional Regency Romance. I thoroughly enjoyed this historical romance, so much in fact, that I will be looking for other stories by Susana Ellis to read in the future.

I do love the odd historical for a change from almost anything… lol. I do like diversity and this sounds like it might fit the bill. Great review, Lori
